Then I discovered that this method was actually easier and it keeps everything self contained within an.app file. So, without any further ado, let’s get started and install Steam on your Mac!!! Install Wineskin Winery. This little gem is quickly becoming my favorite way to use Wine on Mac OS X. Wineskin is simple, fast and it’s easy. The Vineyard is a goods building of the Bronze Age that produces Wine. If the player controls the good deposit of Grapes (which eventually can be found in the provinces of the Bronze Age, the Modern Era and the Arctic Future) the production is multiplied by five. Numbers within parentheses indicate good deposit boosted production. Wineskin tools: Opens op the wineskin app with it functions to for example change settings in there. Or to install specific Winetricks, giving port details and more. In some situations we can sent you instructions to do some stuff in there to fix things.

Hello everybody!
I want to refresh some informations about playing in LAN and the compatibility between Windows and MAC in this year of 2017.
I saw other threads but they are 7 years old now.
I discovered that game last year and I am playing the Windows Version with Linux MATE using Wine.
My friend has a MAC version of it. We would like to play together.
Unfortunately, many people faces the compatibility problem with PCs versions and Mac versions. It seems impossible to launch a game between Pc and Mac.
Old rumors say that you need that you need the Windows version 1.12 and Mac version 1.04.
It's hard to now nowadays because it seem forgotten in the obsure years of the Internet.
We remembered that there was a compatibility table of AOEIII versions and the equivalences between Windows and Mac, but it seems lost today...
I have the 1.14 version, it seems to be most up-to-date version according to this page:
http://www.agecommunity.com/gameUpdates.aspx
Is there anybody somewhere in this modern world that 'workaround'-ed this old problem?
My next attempt will be to install the Windows version on my friend's mac using PlayOnMac. I guess it will work since the game is older and his computer might survive the emulation.
Have a good evening, day, morning and hope we can share some ideas.
Benone

If somebody searches for an answer, I've seen these infos on another forum (eso-community). From user 'Mitoe'.
'I also use a Mac to play AoE3, and you have a few options:
1) Bootcamp - If you can get a hold of a Windows install disk, you can install the OS via bootcamp and then reboot your computer onto your new Windows partition and play there.
2) Crossover - Codeweavers (https://www.codeweavers.com) have developed a program called Crossover which uses Wine to emulate the Windows OS and thereby let you install Windows applications directly to your Mac. I've heard it works very well for AoE3 and there's a free trial if you want to make sure you can get it working before you buy
3) WineSkin - This is my preferred option, but probably only because I didn't have to pay for it. It works similarly to Crossover in the sense that it uses Wine to install Windows applications on your Mac, but while WineSkin is free, it is also a lot more work than either of the two previous solutions, and you often have to do a lot of minor tweaking to get things working just right. I'm going to be writing a guide on how to set up WineSkin with AoE3 in the near future (maybe sometime in July), but if you want to try using this option and need some help setting it up let me know '
hope it can help!

Wineskin Winery Engine

Hi all,
I had problems with the multiplayer mode in AoE on WINE and I finally solved them and want to report my success for those who are intersted.
Generally, take a look at this discussion post:
www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-users/2004/02/0174.html
If I'm correct, you should follow these steps:
1) You should have DirectX installed. It doesn't need to be the current version. Why? Because of the native DLL's of DirectPlay network playing system.
2) Make sure your WINE registry file (~/.wine/system.reg) includes the registry information that can be found in the link mentioned above. These entries are absolutely necessary for the network play.
3) In order to play via TCP/IP protocol, you should configure WINE to prefer native form of these DLL's:
- dplayx
- dpnhpast
- dpwsock
- dpwsockx
I din't test other types of connection but, if you want, you can go through the registry entries mentioned above and figure out which other libraries do you need to connect other ways (let's say, serial line or modem). These may include:
- dpmodemx
- dpserial
4) Beware of the sound! WINE still has problems playing the sound from AoE. Playing with music & sound can cause WINE to crash. This is just another episode, but just for start, you can turn the sound off in AoE :-)
Tested with the latest WINE version (20050628) from Mandriva LE 2005 RPMs.
